He braved the Marcos dictatorship, spread hope and democracy, defended the rights of the poor and the marginalized, until Filipinos took to the streets to oppose years of corrupt governance that culminated in a non-violent revolution.
As the country celebrates the 26th year of the 1986 EDSA People Power this month, we also commemorate the 90th birthday (February 26) and the 25th death anniversary (February 27) of one of the revolution's pillars: Jose "Pepe" W. Diokno - senator, nationalist, and human rights defender.
Award-winning filmmaker Pepe Diokno produced two 30-seconder videos for his grandfather that show the late senator's faith in Pinoy power and his fervent hope that his fellow men will someday be free from poverty.
