The Metro Manila Traffic Navigator (TNAV), a project between TV5's online news portal, InterAksyon.com, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), on Thursday was awarded the prestigious Boomerang Award for Innovation by the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP).
The online traffic monitoring site was awarded the Boomerang Award for its use of technology to enhance public service and quality of life in the Philippine capital.
Although it went live and public only a little more than two months ago, the Traffic Navigator has had an immediate impact on the lives and habits of thousands of motorists and residents of Metro Manila.
"This was the result of a genuine public-private partnership between TV5 and the MMDA, and highlights the power of technology to improve life in our country and elsewhere," said Roby Alampay, editor of InterAksyon.com, and senior manager for new media at TV5. Alampay gave credit to MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino for his vision and support for the collaboration, and to MMDA director for traffic, Yves Gonzalez, for helping to guide the project from concept to execution. The Traffic Navigator (TNAV) was designed and programmed by the team of Stray Interactive, led by Ninoy Leyran.
