MANILA - Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao has apologized for his remarks on same-sex marriage, where he said that people of the same sex engaged in sex acts are behaving worse than animals. A video showing him being interviewed on the issue went viral Monday night.

I would like to ask for forgiveness from everyone hurt by my comparing people to animals. And, my decision that I am against same-sex marriage will not change. That is my belief. My mistake is that I compared persons to animals. So I ask for forgiveness)," he said.

"I'm humbling myself before you and before God for my mistake. Thank you and God bless."

"Hello po sa inyong lahat. Maraming salamat sa dasal at suporta (Hello to everyone. Thank you for the prayers and the support)," the boxing icon said in a video on his official Facebook page.

In an interview with Bilang Pilipino, the data-driven elections coverage by News5,, Bloomberg TV Philippines, Philippine Star, and BusinessWorld, Pacquiao had said that, coming from a religious background, he could not give the topic his support.

"As Christian, bawal naman 'yung same-sex marriage. As a Christian, same-sex marriage is not allowed. Woman was made for man, man was made for woman)," he said.

(For me, it's common sense. Will you see in animals male to male and female to female? The animals are better. They know how to distinguish, male or female)."

If we approve male on male, female on female, then man is worse than animal)."

I'm not condemning them. 'Yung marriage lang, 'yung committing sin against God (Right? Even among animals ... those of the same sex are not allowed to do it. But I'm not condemning them. Just the marriage, the committing of sin against God)."
