(UPDATED - 6:24 p.m.) DATU HOFFER, Ampatuan, Maguindanao - Police are digging for possible remains of six people believed to killed and buried here during the reign of the Ampatuans.

Carrying a search warrant issued by Judge Jordan Reyes of Sultan Kudarat Regional Trial Court Branch 19, a team from the police and the Department of Justice started the exhumation at around 12:30 p.m. in Barangay Limpongon after an informant said that the bodies had been buried in the area.

Four of the victims were reportedly killed in January 2005, while the two others were reportedly slain in September 2008.

They six, whose identities remain unknown, were ordered killed allegedly by Andal Ampatuan Sr.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the team decided to temporarily stop its search due to "technical problems with the backhoe," according to  Senior Inspector Teody Condesa of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Sultan Kudarat.

"We will resume the diggings tomorrow. Hopefully it will yield positive results," he said.
