Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, presiding over the impeachment court, on Tuesday rejected a prosecution motion to subpoeana Chief Justice Renato Corona, his wife, his children, and his children's spouses. Enrile cited the constitution and rules of court in holding that Corona and his family could not be compelled to testify against themselves or each other.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano expressed "reservations" about the ruling. While agreeing that Corona's right against self-incrimination should be upheld, Cayetano argued that the Chief Justice's wife, children, and in-laws should not automatically be exempt from subpoena.

Enrile put the matter to a vote, and his earlier position was ultimately upheld, by a vote of 14-6. Here's how the senator-judges voted:

The six senators who voted to reconsider Enrile's ruling:

  1. Cayetano (Alan Peter)
  2. Cayetano (Pia)
  3. Villar
  4. Trillanes
  5. Guingona
  6. Pimentel

The 14 senators who supported Enrile's ruling:

  1. Estrada
  2. Sotto
  3. Angara
  4. Arroyo
  5. Drilon
  6. Escudero
  7. Honasan
  8. Marcos
  9. Lacson
  10. Lapid
