MANILA, Philippines - Asia's largest clothing retailer Uniqlo (Japan) will soon open its first shop in the Philippines after its top executive planed in Wednesday night on board Japan Airlines flight JAL 745.

“To all Filipinos, Mabuhay! I am very happy to meet you. Very soon, Uniqlo will come to the Philippines and we're looking forward to seeing you in our store,” Naoki Otoma, executive vice president of Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. and managing director of Uniqlo Asia/Japan, said in his arrival statement at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Previously named Unique Clothing Warehouse and later renamed Uniqlo, the brand is now Japan’s leading clothing retail chain known for its high quality fashionable basic and casual wear. It has 824 stores in Japan alone and about 150 stores outside its home base.

Uniqlo entered the international market in 1991 by launching stores in the UK, and subsequently, ventures in China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the United States, France, Singapore, and Russia followed.

It recently opened stores in Bangkok, Thailand, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

The first flagship Uniqlo store will open in the SM Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay City in a month’s time for its first venture in Manila, according to an earlier news report.
