MANILA, Philippines -- Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago used to eat death threats for breakfast. But on Valentine's Day on Tuesday, her husband will be dining on death threats if he doesn't give her flowers or a kiss.
Santiago told reporters on Monday that she expects nothing less from former Interior and Local government undersecretary Narciso Santiago.
“Well my husband has been threatened with death if he does not give me flowers, so I’m sure to get flowers,” Santiago said.
The senator, who is often kept from attending the Corona impeachment trial due to frequent high blood pressure, said that if she were healthier, she could pursuade her husband for more.
"If I had the physical strength, I might persuade him to give me a car or a diamond ring or at least a very passionate kiss," she said.
Santiago, known for her colorful and feisty vocabulary, is one of the senator-judges at the impeachment proceedings against Chief Justice Renato Corona. She said she is not sure if she could attend Tuesday's trial because of her hypertension.
