MANILA, Philippines – The Bureau of Customs on Wednesday said it seized worth of motor vehicles and bicycle tires at the Manila International Container Port.
Commissioner Rufino Biazon said the bureau intercepted last October a Suzuki station wagon, a jet ski, three units of Honda motorcycles, a Yamaha scooter, and 36,000 pieces of bicycle tires and flaps – worth a combined P3 million.
The importer, Cimberly Enterprises, declared that the items shipped from Japan included mini-tractors, grass cutters, compressors, bicycles, motorbike parts and gasoline engines.
The misdeclaration would have resulted in a three-percent tariff, much lower than the 10 percent slapped on the actual products.
Biazon said the bureau’s X-ray Inspection Unit discovered the discrepancy.
Besides Cimberly, Customs also intercepted 36,000 pieces of bicycle tires and flaps from China worth P22 million.
The importer was Royal Halo Enterprises.
