MANILA, Philippines -- Twenty-two soldiers were wounded, five of them critically, in a landmine explosion near a captured Abu Sayyaf camp in Basilan province Tuesday morning, the military said.
Col. Ricardo Visaya, commander of Joint Task Force Basilan and the Army's 104th brigade, said the troops of the 13th Scout Ranger Company were conducting clearing operations in Abong Abong Peak Hill 850, Sitio Pansol, Barangay Baywas, Sumisip town when the explosion happened.
"This is believed to be the work of the ASG as it is near their former camp," Visaya told reporters.
Two helicopters have been sent to evacuate the wounded soldiers.
