KIDAPAWAN CITY - A fugitive who escaped in 1995 from Davao Penal Colony (DaPeCol) in Davao City was arrested by police in a remote village in Arakan town in North Cotabato, Sunday, police reports said.
Chief Insp. Joeffrey Todenio, chief of the Arakan municipal police office, identified the arrested fugitive in Barangay Katipunan as Cristituto Tan, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for a homicide case that happened some 17 years ago.
Citing records, Todenio said Tan escaped from DaPeCol last June 11, 1995 and sought refuge in a relative’s place in Barangay Katipunan, Arakan.
“Tan lived like a normal person in the village for 17 years. Until one day, one of the residents in the area gave us a tip of Tan’s presence,” said Todenio.
Barangay Katipunan, the farthest village in Arakan town, is located at the boundary of Davao City and North Cotabato.
Tan is placed temporarily under the custody of Arakan PNP.
The fugitive would be sent back to the DaPeCol this week, according to Todenio.
