CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao – A freak tornado hit a coastal communities Thursday in Parang, Maguindanao, damaging at least 25 houses and sending people running for their lives.

Village official Abubakar Abdul of Barangay Polloc, Parang, Maguindanao, said the tornado hit the residential areas at about 3 p.m. as dark clouds accompanied by thunderstorm covered the northern part of Maguindanao.

"We thought it was just an ordinary downpour but the very strong wind almost wipe out the whole coastal village," Abdul said.

Three sitios (sub-villages) were affected and about 26 families left homeless. Their houses were made of light materials and were taken away by strong winds.

Nobody was hurt since most of the family of fisher folks have ran for safety when they saw the tornado coming, according to Abdul.

The affected families are now temporary housed in the village center and day care center building.

The local government of Parang has sent social workers to validate the number of families affected by the calamity.
