CA justice Sabio passes away

BAGUIO CITY - Court of Appeals Justice Jose Sabio, who disclosed that he was being offered P10 million to inhibit from a case involving the Manila Electric Company and the Government Service Insurance System, died on Tuesday, April 17, due to a lingering illness.

Supreme Court Spokesman and Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez on Wednesday said that Jose Sabio, brother of former Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) Chairman Camilo Sabio, died at age 71 in his hometown Cagayan de Oro City.

Justice Sabio's exposé bribery attempts led to an investigation and the eventual dismissal of a fellow CA Justice. Sabio himself was suspended for two months while two justices were reprimanded and another justice was admonished.

Justice Sabio's remains lie in state at his residence in Cagayan de Oro City.


Interment will be on April 23, 2012 at the Divine Shepherd Memorial Gardens in Cagayan de Oro City.
