MANILA, Philippines -- A Quezon City on Thursday court entered “not guilty” pleas for Ang Galing partylist Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo and his wife Angela on the tax evasion charges they are facing.
This was after husband and wife did not enter any plea to the cases against them by the Bureau of Internal Revenue for their alleged failure to submit their income tax returns.
Their lawyer, Atty. Ruy Alberto Rondain, told reporters that his clients did not want to dignify the indictments which he said were defective.
Presiding Judge Marie Christine Jacob of Regional Trial Court Branch 100 set the preliminary conference on May 21 and the pretrial on June 7.
The party-list representative, along with his wife, Angela, is facing three counts of tax evasion for not filing his ITRs for taxable years 2007 to 2009.
Angela, on the other hand, was charged with seven counts for allegedly failing to file ITRs for taxable years 2003 to 2009.
