MANILA, Philippines - Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero on Thursday said he is still undecided on whether to join the senatorial slate of President Benigno Aquino III or that of Vice President Jejomar Binay in the 2013 mid-term elections.

"I plan to run as independent, i would not run under any political party but i am not closing my options," Escudero said.

"I consider myself more as an independent than party-less and i am not discounting any possibilities, all options are open. Pero hindi dapat munang pag-usapan ang pulitika, masyado pang malayo ang 2013 na marami nang mainit na gustong pag-usapan, pero sila na muna, hindi muna ako (But let's not talk politics. 2013 is still too far off but many excited people already want to talk about it. Let them, but not me)," Escudero added.

Escudero said he cannot decide which party to join because he is not a member of a governing body of United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and Liberal Party (LP) and both Aquino and Binay are not candidates in the 20913 mid-term elections.

"Formally, wala pang nag-offer because i am not the governing body of UNA or i am not a member of LP, sila sila sinusuri pa nila ang kani-kanilang listahan (they are going over their respective lists)," Escudero said.

Escudero pointed out the outcome of the 2010 presidential elections, where those who announced their candidacy early lost.

"Isa-isa lang ang laban at a time. Kung marami nag lumantad sa laban para sa 2016, pero alam naman natin noon na ang lahat nang unang lumabas na pangalan, hindi nagwagi, at iyong huling lumabas na pangalan, iyon ang nagwagi," Escudero said.
