CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga -- Close to 7,000 youths in Central Luzon will be given jobs this summer.

Adelina Apostol, regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office, said there are 6,977 summer jobs for the region during Monday’s flag raising ceremony at the DSWD covered court in this city.

Apostol said the summer job employment is under the Government Internship Program, a component of the Kabataan 2000.

The GIP was developed with the end goal of providing opportunity for both out-of-school and in school youths a hands-on experience of working in various government agencies, which they could later use when they decide to be part of the government workforce, she said.

This is likewise an opportunity for them to learn life skills in the workplace and at the same time earn money to augment their school needs.

This program is implemented during summertime when the youth are on vacation, thus using their available time in a productive manner, she added.

The program is aimed to initiate the youth to public service; to serve as a recruitment mechanism for potential public employee; and to extend possible financial assistance for the next school year.

It is open to youths who are 18-30 years old and who are either in-school, out-of-school or are college or vocational courses graduates but are unemployed.

The participants may be engaged in the following areas: DSWD center and institutions; cash for work/disaster risk management program; crisis intervention units; social pension for indigent senior citizens; supplementary feeding program; day care centers; internally displaced persons and Pantawid Pamilya.

The DSWD will provide the participants with stipend commensurate to applicable minimum wage in the region. For Region III, each participant will be paid P330 per day.

Region III, or Central Luzon, is composed of the provinces of AuroraBataanBulacanNueva EcijaPampangaTarlac, and Zambales.
