MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE - 11:51 a.m.) Unidentified gunmen fired at the home of University of the Philippines (UP) professor Randy David Tuesday evening, his daughter, broadcast journalist Kara David reported over Twitter.
Kara (@karadavid) said that nobody was injured in the incident.
"My family is ok. Papa and Julia David's granddaughter) were in the sala (living room) when they heard around 4 shots. Good thing the vehicle was parked in the garden. Yun ang tinamaan ng bala at hindi sila. Salamat Panginoon (The bullets hit that and not them. Thank God)," Kara tweeted.
Investigator SPO2 Rommel Mayo said witnesses saw three men in a white Toyota FX with license plates UDM 191 drive by David’s residence on Gomburza St. in UP Diliman and fire several times around 8:30 p.m.
One of the bullets hit the passenger side of the Davids’ Toyota Innova.
The attackers returned at 9:05 p.m. and again fired four shots at the David home.
Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo said David had no known enemies and had refused security escorts.
"Hindi maintindihan, lalo na si Professor Randy halos semi-retired na (It’s difficult to understand, especially since Professor Randy is practically semi-retired). Any remote motive possible, pagkakaalam ko wala, (I know of nothing)" Robredo said.
David has been advised to take extra precaution following the incident.
