MANILA, Philippines -- Police in San Pablo City, Laguna have denied a report that a local journalist has been shot dead in their area and insisted that the victim was a traffic enforcer.
In a phone interview, city police chief Sr. Supt. Ferdinand de Castro belied the report that victim Michael Jayson Calanasan, 36, was a local reporter in their city.
Calanasan, a traffic enforcer, was shot dead by two motorcycle-riding gunmen in Barangay Sta. Monica 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Calanasan was with his wife on board a motorcycle when they were shot. The suspects fled after the incident.
De Castro said Calanasan was neither a journalist nor a commentator.
