MANILA, Philippines -- The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats will endorse the United Nationalist Alliance’s senatorial slate in next year’s mid-term elections after two of its members were included in the lineup of the new political group formed by Vice President Jejomar Binay and former President Joseph Estrada.
House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez said Lakas was grateful for UNA’s adoption of Representatives Milagros Magsaysay of Zambales and Lani Mercado-Revilla of Cavite.
However, only Magsaysay is decided on running for senator.
Although out of power, Suarez said he believes Lakas can still muster between 2-3 million “command votes” for UNAS in the provinces.
Suarez also clarified that despite the parting of ways between Lakas and the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino, the political party created by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, they are not looking at a merger but only a “tactical alliance” with UNA.
