MANILA, Philippines – The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats on Friday denied that it will be endorsing the senatorial lineup of the United Nationalist Alliance of Vice President Jejomar Binay and former President Joseph Estrada in next year’s midterm elections.
"While there are proposals from party members to coalesce with UNA for the 2013 polls, they remain just that, mere proposals," Lakas spokesman Raul Lambino said.
"There are also proposals to support the line-up of other parties, or to even choose from the various slates the candidates LAKAS will be campaigning for," he added.
He said this these matters will be decided during Lakas’ national council meeting in May.
Lambino also denied reports Representative Lani Mercado-Revilla, wife of Lakas president Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., would run for the Senate.
It was Quezon Representative Danilo Suarez, the House minority leader, who earlier disclosed the supposed endorsement of UNA’s slate after the newly formed party agreed to adopt Mercado-Revilla and Zambales Representative Milagros Magsaysay.
"It is clear that Cong. Lani and the Revilla family have not expressed any intention to join any senatorial slate for the 2013 elections. As far as I know, they have not even entertained such a thought," said Lambino.
"On the other hand, what has already been decided upon is to push for the candidacy of Rep. Mitos Magsaysay for the Senate. We will go all out to support her bid," he ended.
