CEBU CITY -- Barangay San Nicolas in Cebu City on Saturday celebrated the annual Kaplag-Buwad Festival to commemorate the discovery of the image of the Sto. Niño 447 years ago.
People carrying image of the Holy Child went to the San Nicolas Parish, where children joined the “halad” Sinulog dance as an offering to the Sto. Niño.
”The celebration is all about thanksgiving and praise to the Holy Child,” said Msgr. Daddy Silva, parish priest of San Nicolas and one of the organizers of the event.
At least 15 tartanillas or horse-drawn rigs paraded at the parish grounds.
Every image of the Sto. Niño displayed in different households was blessed.
After the Sinulog street dancing, a mass for the Buwad (dried fish) Festival was held around 4 p.m. at Sitio Tabo-an, followed by the blessing of the Tabo-an Public Market.
