TAGUIG CITY, Philippines--Three children and a man who tried to save one of the victims were killed in a fire after a reportedly defective tank of cooking gas exploded in Taguig City on Sunday afternoon.
Two children of Police Sgt. Jeffrey Denna and Lanie Denna, their nephew, Michael Hortelano, and a Marcos Benito who tried to save Hortelano were killed in the explosion inside the Denna's house in Wildcat Village at around 5 o’clock of Sunday afternoon.
"Di ko sila nasave. Di man lang ako nakagawa ng paraan para makuha sila," Mrs. Denna said, adding she remains haunted by the tragedy.
She still is unable to shake off the memory of spending what would later become the last few moments with her children.
"Di ko ma-imagine last word ng anak ko, mama yakapin mo ako. Inakap ko siya," she remembered.
Jeffrey, the father of the kids, was at work when the explosion took place. Since he was unable to save their children, he was prompted to wish that he should have taken the place of his kids.
“Ako na lang sana namatay, wag lang sila. Kawawa sila eh, bata pa sila," he said.
Besides the Denna kids, Michael Hortelano also died from the explosion. A neighbor, Marcos Benito, lost his life trying to save Hortelano.
The Dennas blamed the store where they bought what they believed was a defective liquefied petroleum gas tank. The store owner claimed that the LPG tank was only delivered to their store and had no idea about the defect. Aliana Gimena, InterAksyon.com, with Mon Gualvez,TV5
