MANILA, Philippines - President Benigno Aquino III is not prematurely campaigning for the possible candidates of the Liberal Party for the 2013 senatorial race, a senior Palace official said on Monday.
This after Aquino openly campaigned for Aurora Rep. Sonny Angara and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority director general Joel Villanueva on Sunday.
“Certainly that is not premature campaigning. No one has filed yet their certificates of candidacy, so there is no premature campaigning,” presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said.
“He’s just proud to have them,” Lacierda said.
During a recent forum of the People Power Volunteers for Reform, Aquino also openly sought support for former Akbayan party-list Rep. Risa Hontiveros.
Asked if people could expect Aquino to be endorsing LP senatorial bets during his public engagements, Lacierda said, “we’ll see.”
Lacierda, however, said the President will make a “good endorser” for the LP senatorial bets.
