MANILA, Philippines – The National Press Club (NPC) Election Committee has started counting the votes cast in Sunday’s annual elections, held just two days after World Press Freedom Day.
According to the Election Committee chaired by columnist Abner Afuang, a total 752 NPC members cast their votes in Sunday’s polls and the advance voting for lifetime members last Friday.
Of the 752 total voters, 99 were lifetime members.
“This is an overwhelming turnout of votes. With this, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to lifetime members, including regular who braved the scorching heat this Sunday afternoon just to cast their votes,” NPC president Jerry Yap said.
The NPC presidency is being contested by Remate publisher Benny Antiporda and dwIZ broadcaster Percy Lapid.
