MANILA, Philippines - The vehicle last used by the star witness against alleged carjack ringleaders Raymond and Roger Dominguez of Bulacan prior to his death has been recovered by authorities along Roxas Boulevard Tuesday morning, a police official said.
Chief Supt. Benito Estipona, director of the Southern Police District, said the white Toyota Grandia (plate number -TBO 299) last used by Alfred Mendiola and his two companions was recovered abandoned near a hotel along the boulevard.
Police initially found an empty shell from an unknown gun and a packaging tape inside the vehicle. Authorities have roped off the area where the crime took place.
Estipona said the recovery of the vehicle was vital in identifying the suspects and their motives in killing Mendiola and his two companions, Mark Herrera and Eriberto Jumaquio. The three were found dead in a grassy area in Dasmarinas City, Cavite last Sunday.
Authorities suspect that the slay have something to do with Mendiola testifying against the Dominguez brothers who are being implicated in the death of car dealer Venson Evangelista.
Mendiola, formerly an accused in the death of Evangelista, turned state witness last year against the Domiguez brothers who are accused of car theft with homicide.
