MANILA – Laotian Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong, will undertake a State Visit to the Philippines on May 10 to 12, upon the invitation of President Benigno S. Aquino III, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Tuesday.
It is the first visit to the country of the leader of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. Aquino and Thongsing will discuss bilateral cooperation and partnerships in promoting people-to-people and institutional exchanges. They will also exchange views on regional issues such as ASEAN and ASEM, among others.
Prime Minister Thongsing will visit the International Rice Research Institute, the Asian Institute of Management and the Asian Development Bank. He will also keynote a business forum organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Philippines and Laos have enjoyed 57 years of bilateral relations.
