MANILA, Philippines - Cignal, the Philippines' premier direct-to-home satellite provider, will mount a free public viewing for Jessica Sanchez's mother's townmates in Samal, Bataan, on May 17 and 18, so they can watch and support the Filipino-Mexican as she competes to reach the Finals stage of American Idol.
Thursday's Idol performances by Sanchez and contenders Joshua Ledet and Phillip Phillips are crucial as these will be the basis of votes to determine the last two finalists in the popular singing competition's eleventh season.
Through Cignal's special presentation, the residents of Samal - Sanchez's mother's hometown - will be able to watch the May 17 Idol performace night, and then the May 18 results night, for free.
Cignal, owned and operated by MediaScape Inc., a subsidiary of MediaQuest Holdings, the media partner of the PLDT Group of Companies, has partnered with Samal Mayor Generosa Malibiran dela Fuente for the free public viewing of the two crucial Idol nights. There will be games and festivities before the public viewing via the Starworld Channel.
Dela Fuente threw her support behind Sanchez and thanked Cignal for its "tireless support in covering the event since the beginning."
"The Filipino people are proud of you, you make us prouder knowing that your roots came here from Samal, Bataan. It is with great pride and joy that we can again hear our idol to sing and once again shock and enchant the whole world of her singing prowess," Dela Fuente said in a message for Sanchez.
Sanchez was born in California to parents Gilbert and Editha Sanchez. Gilbert is a Mexican-American who originally came from Texas. Editha is a Filipino-American who hails from Samal, Bataan.
