MANILA, Philippines -- Senator Franklin Drilon on Tuesday rejected Chief Justice Renato Corona's dare that he sign a waiver of confidentiality guaranteed in the Foreign Currency Deposit Act.
“I will not fall into his trap. I will not go down to his level. He is pathetic!" Drilon said in a statement emailed to media outfits.
“That is all part of his game plan. It only shows that the Chief Justice has no intention to be cross-examined by the impeachment court, that he, after all, is insincere when he said he is willing to divulge all his bank accounts, including his dollar accounts,” he said.
“We are not the ones on trial. We are not the ones being tried at the impeachment court,” he added.
At Tuesday's impeachment trial, Corona dared Drilon and the 188 congressmen who signed the impeachment complaint to also waive their right to confidentiality and have their deposit accounts examined.
