MANILA, Philippines -- The Season 11 finale of the hit reality-TV show "American Idol" kicked off Thursday morning (Manila time) to star-studded performances from the Top 12 finalists, some of the biggest music stars and a marriage proposal.
Idol host Ryan Seacrest announced that the show's Top 2 battle between power-belter Jessica Sanchez and country crooner Philip Phillips attracted 132 million votes.
"This is a big night!" Seacrest said after the much-anticipated opening number.
The Top 12 girls and boys have performed a medley of songs separately -- the girls joined by R&B superstar Chaka Khan, the boys by singer-songwriter Neil Diamond.
Rihanna fired up the stage when she sang her top-selling single "Where Have You Been?" while Idol judge Jennifer Lopez also blew the roof off the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles with two songs.
But the scene-stealer thus far was the marriage proposal of fifth season finalist Ace Young to Season 3 second place winner Diana Degarmo live on the “Idol” stage.
The two-hour grand finale is expected to be ratings gold for FOX Network.
The show is still ongoing. (Joseph Holandes Ubalde, InterAksyon.com)
