MANILA, Philippines -- Senator-judge Francis Pangilinan on Tuesday became the 13th senator to vote that Chief Justice Renato Corona is guilty of violating Article 2 of the Articles of Impeachment.
Pangilinan said Corona should be removed from office for dishonesty in filing his statements of assets, liabilities, and net worth, and for disrespecting the impeachment court when the chief justice walked out after his testimony last week.
“The vote to convict is a vote to end abuses,” he said.
“Only when we punish the guilty and punish swiftly will we have the rule of law,” he added.
The Senate sitting as an impeachment court initially voted on Article 2 which refers to the filing of the statement of assets, liabilities, and net worth.
