MANILA, Philippines - Senator-judge Vicente Sotto III voted to acquit Chief Justice Renato Corona on Article II as the impeachment court rendered a verdict on Day 44 of the historic trial.
Sotto, 20th in the line of senators called upon to declare and announce their vote, said Corona is guilty as charged in Article of Impeachment II, failure to disclose fully his assets, liabilities and net worth.
He said "the real judges in this trial are the people. They heard both sides. Like many of us, they re not lawyers. But the power of democracy is in their hands. In my conscience, I have heard their decision, and for them I vote guilty."
