LOS ANGELES- Fresh from his Washington visit, President Benigno 'Noynoy' Aquino III flew to Los Angeles Saturday (Manila time) to meet the Filipino community and personally speak with American Idol runner-up Jessica Sanchez.

Wearing a simple black suit with a yellow necktie, Aquino sat down with Sanchez and other members of the Filipino community. Aside from Sanchez, Aquino also met with Black Eyed Peas Filipino member Apl.de.Ap (Allan Pineda Lindo in real life) who had visited him in Malacanang in 2010.

Sanchez, whose maternal roots trace back to Bataan, has been widely supported by Filipinos in the US and elsewhere in the world during the recently-concluded 11th season of American Idol.

The 16-year-old singer is set to visit the country and perform with the rest of the American Idol finalists on September 21 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Aquino, well-regarded by the US government, not least for his battles against corruption, is being accorded a White House meeting on Friday with President Barack Obama.

That meeting comes as Washington has begun helping Manila beef up its modest military capacities in the face of a confrontation with China over contested South China Sea reefs. with reports from Reuters
