Annabelle Rama has asked a Quezon City court to lift the arrest warrants issued after she failed to attend her arraignment for libel charges filed by Nadia Montenegro.
Through lawyer Dereck Delegencia, the talent manager sought the suspension of the bench warrants.
Rama's lawyer filed the pleading after Judge Eleuterio Bathan of Regional Trial Court Branch 92 issued the warrants against Rama on Monday.
The talent manager was ordered arrested when she was absent at her scheduled arraignment on Monday.
The Quezon City prosecutors' office charged Rama with 14 counts of libel for her statements on Twitter and on television against Montenegro, whose two daughters were in Rama's care.
Rama had no intention to disregard the scheduled arraignment, she said in her pleading.
She added that she had the impression that her presence was not needed because of a motion yet to be resolved by the court.
This was to suspend her arraignment as she is challenging her indictment before the fiscal.
However, the court has denied Rama's pleading early this week due to lack of merit, even before she asked for the lifting of the arrest warrants. InterAksyon.com
