CAMP PANACAN, Davao City - Authorities have intensified relief operations in Glan, Sarangani Province after more families sought refuge at the evacuation centers three days after the flashfloods that occurred Tuesday night.
Major Rosa Maria Christina Manuel, executive officer of the 10th Civil-Military Operations Battalion based here, said relief goods including 48 sacks of rice, canned goods and noodles were distributed to the affected families.
She said as of 1:00 p.m. Friday, 1,335 families with 5,837 dependents are temporarily housed in evacuation centers in Glan town, and in barangays Pangyan, Big Margus, Small Margus and Laguimit.
“The increasing number of evacuees is attributed to the latest arrival of victims from areas hard hit by flashflood,” Manuel said.
She said as of Saturday morning, 37 persons remain unaccounted for while 310, mostly fishermen, were already rescued.
Manuel said the Provincial Risk Reduction Management Council of Sarangani placed the total damage to crops, livestocks and infrastructure including three schoolbuildings, 37 totally damaged houses and 84 slightly damaged at P1.8 million.
