MANILA, Philippines -- Residents of low-lying Bulacan towns are alerted Monday as Ipo Dam started releasing water as it reached critical level due to incessant heavy rains.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said as of 6:30 a.m., Ipo Dam has opened one of its gates by 30 centimeters, after its water levels exceeded the normal level of 100.80 meters.
"The water release from Ipo Dam is expected to affect the low-lying areas along Angat River from Norzagaray to Hagonoy," the NDRRMC said.
"Residents in the area are advised for possible increase in the water level downstream," it added.
