CAMP PANACAN, Davao City - Soldiers arrested six persons in possession of explosive components 8:00 a.m. Saturday at Purok One, Barangay Andap, New Bataan Compostela Valley. Lt. Colonel Lyndon Paniza, spokesperson of the 10th Infantry Division based here, identified the six suspects as Herald Baugto, Junvin Fernandez, Mody Lindaan, Danilo Maunda, Ernesto Bagbag, and Darwin Montella. Paniza said members of the 66th Infantry Battalion flagged down the suspects at a checkpoint after noticing that their two motorcycles did not have license plates. Paniza said two kilos of ammonium phosphate, 12 blasting caps, and 84 feet of detonating cord were confiscated from the suspects. “They were turned over to the New Bataan Police for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges,” he said. Soldiers tightened the security in the area following the landmine blast which killed one officer and wounded three others in Barangay Bantacan, New Bataan last Friday night. Paniza said the landmine was laid on the concrete highway, 100 meters away from church of Iglesia ni Kristo and about 300 meters from a school in New Bataan. He identified the victims as 1Lt Rodel Daguio and Private First Class Richie Ursal of 4th Scout Ranger Company, Staff Sergeant Arnold Pacino, and Corporal Jaime Clara of 1001st Infantry Brigade. He said Daguio died while undergoing medical treatment at the Montevista District Hospital while Ursal was transferred at Davao Regional Hospital in Tagum City, Davao del Norte for further treatment. Paniza said troops recovered land mine materials at the blast site that destroyed a military truck.
“It is sad to know that this incident happened before the Father’s Day celebration. Lt. Daguio was expected to be home in Calinan, Davao City on Sunday to celebrate with his wife and children,” he said.
