MANILA, Philippines - Tropical storm "Talim" has entered the Philippine area ofresponsibility and has been locally named "Carina," according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Carina is estimated to be 420 kilometers northnorthwest of Basco, Batanes, moving northeast at 30 kilometers per hour (kph).
It packs maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.
Carina is not expected to make landfall and will head toward Taiwan.
Northern and Central Luzon, however, will still experience occasional rains and flashfloods. Landslide alerts are raised over the western sections.
Pagasa has also spotted another low pressure area 750 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.
