MANILA, Philippines - Four alleged members of a gun-for-hire group were arrested in Licab, Nueva Ecija following a shootout before dawn on Thursday, police said.
Central Luzon police said authorities were implementing a search warrant against a suspected gun-for-hire group at 4:30 a.m. when they were fired upon by the suspects, leading to a shootout. The suspects, whose names were not immediately available, were eventually arrested.
Police recovered from them a caliber 40 pistol, a caliber 45 pistol and a fragmentation grenade.
Police said a retired cop, identified only as SPO2 Bote, allegedly intervened in the serving of the warrant and was killed after being caught in the crossfire. Police are still investigating the incident.
