MANILA, Philippines - Supporters of Ruffa Gutierrez are urging the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board to sanction “Paparazzi Showbiz Exposed” for the allegedly malicious segment that caused her to quit the talk show.
Ruffa, who will turn 38 on Sunday, told her Twitter followers on Saturday afternoon that she felt disrespected by “Paparazzi” during her birthday celebration.
“From this day on, I will no longer be part of Paparazzi. I will never tolerate DISRESPECT in any form done to me, to my children or to my beloved viewers,” she said in one of the tweets she posted immediately after the telecast.
She did not say exactly what part of the show provoked her ire, but she appeared uncomfortable during the “Bulong ng Palad” segment where her co-hosts took turns whispering a personal question about three actors who were romantically linked to her in the past: her co-host Zoren Legaspi, Aga Muhlach, and Robin Padilla.
Twitter user Glenda Alcantara (@GAP101808) tweeted, “Mali talaga ang mga taga #paparazzi kay @iloveruffag, they also disrespect d’ family of Aga, Zoren & Robin, ipa-MTRCB sila!”
Twitter user LeBonj07n (@itsmebonjie) agreed with this tweet: “I think #Paparazzi will face the consequences thru MTRCB rules and guidelines implemented.”
So did Sheila Lagarde (@shengniapple), who said, “MTRCB should take action on this…writers & hosts should both be responsible & know their responsibility to their audience.”
Some even referred to the TV5 public affairs show “T3″, which was suspended by the MTRCB last month but will resume telecast on Monday courtesy of a Court of Appeals ruling.
Jay Misamis (@iamjaymisamis) tweeted, “If MTRCB suspended some shows because of malicious contents, #Paparazzi should be stopped from airing those disrespectful and senseless, maniac questioning..”
Aaron Kristoffer (@iamsuperam) posted, “Tama! bakit walang aksyon ang MTRCB sa matter na yan, pero yung mga napaka simpleng bagay eh agad agad kung i suspinde.”
And Mark Angelo V. Ching went as far as tweeting, “The questions to Ruffa Gutierrez on Paparazzi were undeniably foul. I already contacted my MTRCB friends about it.”
Others even called for the show to be taken off the air, such as Singapore-based Twitter user Del Isidoro (@dellsidoro), who posted, “grabe ang tanong sa paparazzi na yan.. Dapat tanggalin na yan sa ere. Sobrang respeto kmi dito sa SG sa mga gutierrez family.”
Ben-jilene Santos (@MisisSantos) sympathized with Ruffa’s lament that “Paparazzi” forgot that her two daughters were watching.
“I have a daughter too! I wouldn’t want my little girl to hear those kind of questions at an Early age! Dissolve the show!!” she tweeted.
The TV5 management already vowed to investigate the incident and take immediate action.
Among the “Paparazzi” hosts, Zoren and Mr. Fu, as well as guest co-host Mariel Rodriguez were spared the rancor. Veteran host Cristy Fermin got the lion’s share of the blame.
Twitter user ci ong (@iamJuno) fired this post, “hay kasama mo si Cristy Fermin what does she expect? now lang na realize!”
Viktor Saludares (@VictorSaludares) “@iloveruffag i support you. Cristy Fermin is the sole reason why that trashy show is a mess!”
And Binibining Melanie (@bb_melanie) tweeted, “Well what do you expect sa isang show na kasama si Cristy Fermin.”
Annabelle Rama, who was quick to heap scorn on the show’s writers for the incident, revealed that she has taken up the matter with TV5 Head of Creative Perci Intalan in a subsequent tweet.
Ruffa’s younger brother Raymond Gutierrez sympathized with her sister and tried to cheer her up with this tweet, “@iloveruffag proud of you for making a stand. Time to enjoy the rest of your day with the people who matter most. Birthday week begins now!”
