MANILA, Philippines - A 51-year-old native of Benguet province, who had worked as a house caretaker in Hong Kong for 14 years, has returned to the Philippines after she was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer.

Leonida Ampaguey, accompanied by her daughter Dyalan, arrived Tuesday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 in Pasay City on board Philippine Airlines flight PR-307.

She was welcomed at the airport by running priest Father Robert Reyes, who serves as her spiritual adviser, and her relatives and friends.

Ampaguey denied earlier news reports (not by InterAksyon.com) that she was terminated and maltreated by her employer.

Napakabaiit po ng amo ko [My boss was so kind to me], he provided me medical attention and sent me to one of the best acute care hospitals on the island, the Pamela Youde Eastern Hospital," she said.

"Though I was bedridden, my employer Mr. Kevin Yeung, provided me with financial assistance and...retained me as his house caretaker earning my monthly salary even when I am already sick," added Ampaguey.

While working in Hong Kong, she was able to send three of her four children to college in Baguio City.

Ampaguey said that she was thankful for the help extended to her by Filipinos in Hong Kong, who contributed money so that her daughter could fly to the city and fetch her and bring her back to Benguet through an ambulance and a medical team from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
