When someone farts, other people simply cover their noses or pretend they don't hear anything.
But for a man from New Jersey, passing gas is a crime he could shoot you for.
Daniel Collins, 72, was arrested by police Monday night for allegedly threatening his neighbor with a gun after the latter broke wind in front of Collins' door. According to local news website New Jersey On-Line, the elderly man admitted to confronting his neighbor, with whom he shares an apartment with.
The two had already been quarreling for a while.
Collins denied cocking his revolver at his flatulent neighbor, however, who was not identified in the report.
He submitted himself to a search, with police extracting a .32 caliber from his car, according to the same report. The old man was apparently a stickler for silence.
According to the New York Daily News, Collins told the police that his neighbor let one rip so loudly, "he heard it inside his apartment before he smelled it."
After being charged with "aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a firearm and making terroristic threats," according to the New York publication, Collins was "released without bail." InterAksyon.com
