'Dindo' moves away from PH, but rains still expected

MANILA, Philippines - (UPDATE: 7:48AM) Tropical storm "Dindo" continued to move away from the country Friday but state forecasters still warned of rains over parts of Luzon and Visayas.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "Dindo" is now over the West Philippine Sea, particularly 215 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City. "Dindo" is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility this morning.

However, as "Dindo" moves away, it will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and bring rains over Central and Southern Luzon and Visayas, particularly over the western section. PAGASA reiterated its warning about flashflood and landslide risks in these areas.

PAGASA has already lowered storm signals in Northern Luzon areas.

"Dindo" maintains its strength at 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up 90 kph. It is moving north northwest at 19 kph.

Fishing boats and other small seacraft are still advised not to venture out into the seaboards of Luzon due to the combined effect of the storm and the Southwest Monsoon.

Made landfall over Calayan 

Storm "Dindo" made landfall over the Calayan Group of Islands in Northern Luzon, PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. bulletin Thrsday.

As it made landfall, PAGASA lowered storm signals and only storm signal number 1 is raised over Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, Batanes Group of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Mt. Province, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union and Pangasinan.
