The Philippine Military Academy has lowered the height requirement for future officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, lopping four inches off the minimum standard for Academy cadets.
The minimum height requirement for PMA applicants is now five-feet flat, a good fist shorter than the 5'4" minimum previously demanded. The average height of Filipino males, according to the 6th National Nutrition Survey (2003) is 5'4" and a half. The average adult Filipino female stands 4'11.
The PMA noted that many young men and women interested in entering the academy do not make it past the first stage of the selection process just because of the height requirement.
