MANILA, Philippines - The Miriam College High School Glee Club, which received two gold medals in the recent 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio arrived at the NAIA terminal 1 on board Delta Airlines flight DL629 from US via Narita at 11 p.m. Monday night.

The 34-member club bested 30 choirs from various parts of the world in two of 18 categories of the open competition at the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Dubbed as the Olympics of choral music, the World Choir Games is the world’s largest international choral competition held biennially. It gathered 360 choirs from 48 countries competing in 23 musical categories.

Among nine Philippine choirs in attendance, the MC Glee Club is the lone all-female group from a secondary school. They competed in the Sacred Music (Musica Sacra Category) and Youth Choirs of Equal Voices Categories, where the group won two Gold Diplomas and declared champions for the two categories they joined.

Nancy Roman, Miriam Collage Principal for Student Affairs and glee club conductor, said that five international choral experts hailed the Miriam College Glee Club as the highest winner of the two categories after having obtained the highest scores in terms of intonation, sound quality, fidelity to the score, and overall artistic impression.
