MANILA, Philippines - It was not TV5 that welcomed Dolphy, it was in fact the Comedy King who welcomed the network, its chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan said Thursday night in a eulogy for the veteran actor at the Heritage Park in Taguig City.
"Three years ago we welcomed Mang Dolphy as a kapatid. But the truth is quite opposite. Saying he was already a kapatid was truth for all of us. He welcomed us," said Pangilinan, TV5's chairman.
He described Dolphy as a "unique and exceptional Filipino and a kind and genereous man who believed in simple things; who believed in hard work and excellence."
Also, Pangilinan thanked Dolphy, who played the TV5 chairman's uncle in "Rosario," the film about Pangilinan's grandmother. He said the actor's "kind person and comfortable presence" will be missed.
"To those he left behind, we, all from TV5, stand beside you," he said.
