MANILA, Philippines - Sharon Cuneta, who is close friends with Dolphy's partner Zsa Zsa Padilla, recalled how Dolphy fought for his love for the singer-actress.
"Maraming humusga pero dahil sa pagmamahal niya kay (Many were judgemental but because of his love for) Zsa Zsa he left with only the clothes in his back because Zsa Zsa was his true love," Cuneta said.
"Kinainggitan ko yung pinaglaban ka nya (I envied that he fought for you)," Cuneta told Padilla amid tears. "Mahal na mahal na mahal ka niya (He loved you very much)."
Despite admitting that she was not very close with the Comedy King, Cuneta said Dolphy still served as an inspiration to her and her career.
"Si Tito Dolphy is a national treasure. Treasure. We don't care," Cuneta said.
Meanwhile, host Willie Revillame said he looked at Dolphy as his own dad.
"Naging parang tunay na magulang ko si Tito Dolphy. Nung time na malungkot…magkasama po kami (He became like my parent. When there was gloom … we were together)," Revillame said. He said he was rarely rendered speechless except for talking about the Comedy King.
"Si Tito Dolphy isang gamut ng kalungkutan, bayani sa mga may problema, isang taong simple. Sa industriya po natin, si Tito Dolphy ay isang tunay na henyo. Inspirasyon ng mga taong nagsisimula. Walang kapalit ang Dolphy. Walang pwedeng pumalit sa kanya dahil si Dolphy nag-iisa lamang (Dolphy was medicine to cure sadness, a hero in the midst of problems, a simple man. In our industry, he is a true genius. An inspiration to those who are just starting. No one can compare to Dolphy. No one can replace Dolphy because he is unique)," Revilla said.
Claudine Barretto, who worked alongside Dolphy in Home Along Da Riles, said she learned from Dolphy things she would bring with her throughout her life.
"From him I learned not to be a show off in this business. To have no pretenses, fanfare and gimmicks," Barretto said.
