A prevailing Southwest Monsoon over Luzon and Visayas has claimed the lives of two people in Camarines Sur and flooded other areas in Luzon, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.
Mother and daughter Ludiche, 35, and Jessa Mae Remudes, 8, drowned while crossing the Bugsukan River in Sitio Calugan, Bgy. Nayugan in Buhi town last Sunday.
The victims were swept away by the strong water current Sunday morning. Their bodies were retrieved several hours after.
Several towns in Bulacan were also swamped due to continuous rains, the disaster relief agency said.
Based on its monitoring as of 7 p.m. Sunday, the NDRRMC said the cities/towns of Meycauayan, Malolos, Obando, Marilao, Calumpit, Pulilan and Guiguinto experienced one to four-foot deep floods. Flooding has forced the evacuation of 14 families in Bgy. Tibag, Pulilan, Bulacan.
Evacuees fled to the Tibag Chapel and have since returned to their respective homes. Flooding also hit several villages in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro due to heavy rains.
Waist to knee-deep floods hit the villages of Alipaoy, Tres, Kwatro, Six and Seven. Flooding in Mindoro's Abra de Ilog also destroyed over P1.3 million worth of infrastructure, crops, and livestock.
