MANILA, Philipines -- (UPDATE - 3:09 p.m.) One person died when a roll-on/roll-off ("roro") vessel ran aground in Romblon province Monday due to big waves spawned by storm "Gener."

InterAksyon reader Paul Jaysent Fos, a resident of Odiongan, said the Super Shuttle Roro 1 ship ran aground at the mouth of Looc Bay early Monday morning and caught fire around 6 a.m. although the flames were brought hunder control quickly.

Fos said 66 passengers and 40 crewmen were rescued from the stricken vessel and brought to the Romblon State University campus in Odiongan and to the Looc Health Center where they were given food, clothing and other assistance by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

He added that the Coast Guard identified the fatality through an identification card as Ernesto Flores of Laguna. Flores had a life vest on when his body was recovered.
