MANILA, Philippines - Eight Koreans allegedly engaged in an illegal online gambling operation were arrested recently by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Pasay City.

NBI Director Nonnatus Caesar Rojas identified the eight as Mounghoon Park, Cha Se Woong, Kwon  Jang Hyuk, Jeong Man Seob, Lee Kyoung Mo, Jo Young Ho, Lee Chang Bum and Moon Jung Whan.

Last July 20, a certain Jerome Macandili reported to authorities the alleged illegal activities of a certain Sung Lee and several other Koreeans and Filipinos residing at Antel Seaview Tower on Manaloto Street, along Roxas Boulevard in Pasay.

Rojas said the NBI had confirmed the report of the informant that the Koreans were operating an online casino without a license.

During the search and warrant of three condominium units at Antel, NBI agents seized several units of computer monitors, central processing units, modems, keyboards, laptops, hard disks, IPads, Wifi routers, telephones, mouse, cables, LAN cards, assorted documents, gaming cards, and other similar items and paraphernalia used in the illegal gambling operation.

Rojas said that during the search, the suspects were caught monitoring, hosting, operating, and maintaining casino operations via the Internet.

The Korean suspects were detained at the NBI headquarters in Manila.

The suspects were charged with violating Presidential Decree 1602  or the Anti-Gambling Law before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office.
