MANILA, Philippines -- Close to 5,000 families of Tondo, Manila need help after they were forced to flee their homes at the height of torrential rains and widespread flooding Tuesday.
More than 700 families were crammed into the Corazon Aquino High School, most of them children suffering from fevers, coughs and flu.
Barangay officials appealed to good Samaritans, saying the evacuees lack food as well as clothes and blankets to ward off the cold.
"Kulang ngayon sa kanila, kagaya ng pagkain. Hinahanap nila kanin, kasi may mga nagdala na dito ng noodles at lugaw (They lack things like food. They are looking for rice because donors have brought noodles and gruel)," Barangay 105 officer Natty Marcelo said.
There are also 500 families seeking shelter at the Baseco covered court and day care centers, 2,000 from Happy Land, Sitio Damayan and Aroma and another 1,000 families at the Antonio Villegas High School and Barangay 105 covered court. (with Aliana Gimena, InterAksyon.com)
