MANILA, Philippines -- Five more deaths due to drowning were reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday afternoon, bringing the number of dead from heavy rains due to southwest monsoon (habagat) enhanced by tropical storm "Haikui" outside the country went up to 16.

NDRRMC identified the fatalities as Roel Fabros of Brgy. Dalandanan, Valenzuela City; Tracy Nunang Estrella, 11,of Brgy. Sto. Tomas, Lubao Pampanga; Stephanie Ballon Marquez , three-years-old, of San Agustin, Candaba, Pampanga; Anna Marie Pansipani, seven-years-old and Anna May Pansipani, nine-years-old, both residents of Brgy. Ulango, Tanauan City, Batangas, who all died due to drowning.

NDRRMC said that a total of 16 persons were reported dead, nine of whom were victims of landslide incidents in Lower Bayanihan, Brgy Commonwealth, Quezon City, and one from Valenzuela City due to drowning, three were from Pampanga, one from Zambales and two from Batangas.Four persons were injured, most of whom were victims of the landslide incident in Brgy. Commonwealth, Quezon City.

The NDRRMC also reported as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, 265,630 families or 1,220,021 persons in 1,139 Barangays (villages) in 106 municipalities in 26 cities in 15 provinces of the National Capital Region (Metro Manila), Region 1 (Ilocos), Region 3 (Central Luzon), Region 4-A (CALABARZON), Region 4-B (MIMAROPA) and Region 6 (Western Visayas).

It reported that 80,189 families or 394,844 persons were served inside and outside evacuation areas.

The agency added that the flood incidents happened in 16 cities and one municipality in NCR; Region 1 Pangasinan has affected two municipalities and one city; Region 3 Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Tarlac and Zambales; and Region4-A Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal with a total of 21 municipalities/cities.

A total of 535 houses were damaged in Regions 3, 4-B and 6: 466 totally and 64 partially damaged.

The NDRRMC said that as of 6 am. Wednesday, the estimated cost of relief assistance provided to the disaster victims so far amounted to ₱P7,934,820.00 from the combined resources of: LGUs (₱P3,144,033.00), NGOs (₱770,000.00) and DSWD (₱4,050,787.00) while the prepositioned standby funds and relief supplies worth PP36,555,006 38.
